Issues
Immigration
We are a nation founded by immigrants, built by immigrants, and enriched by the diversity they bring. Our current immigration system is plagued with years-long wait times and a backlog of individuals and families who are simply looking to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones. I will continue to fight to instill sensible immigration reform and to protect those who come to this great nation for a better life.
Reproductive Freedom
The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade had a profound impact on women and has allowed states across the country to roll back the rights of women to govern their own bodies. A woman must be able to make healthcare decisions for herself, and the government should not interfere in these very personal choices. I support a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and believe that the right to privacy is what all Americans are due.
Medicaid
Medicaid stands as a vital lifeline for millions of Americans including children and people with disabilities, providing essential medical care and support to those facing economic challenges and health disparities. I firmly believe that we must do all that we can to protect this program. This is why I stood up to the President and told him that he does not have a mandate to cut Medicaid, and I would do it again. We must stand united in advocating for the preservation of Medicaid.
Social Security
I have been, and will continue to be, a steadfast supporter of Social Security throughout my tenure in Congress. Social Security is a pillar of our nation’s social safety net, ensuring that we do not abandon our citizens to poverty in their old age. I will oppose any efforts to cut benefits or reduce the scope of Social Security, as any cuts would represent a betrayal of the American people who have contributed to it over their lifetime.
LGBTQ+
The LGBTQ+ community has long been at the forefront of fighting to gain the rights and freedoms they have today, and I will not stand by to watch others attempt to strip them of these civil liberties due to their own discriminatory ideologies. LGBTQ+ people and their families exist within every aspect of our nation, and the protection of their rights and existence is of the utmost importance. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure that the LGBTQ+ community and their rights are protected.
Veterans
As a nation, we owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have selflessly dedicated themselves to serving in our nation’s military. Despite their unwavering commitment and sacrifices, too many of our Veterans are struggling to access essential healthcare, secure housing, gainful employment, and the community support they rightfully deserve. The challenges they face, particularly in terms of mental health care, daily necessary assistance, and stable housing, are significant and cannot be overlooked. We must do everything we can to support our nation’s heroes as well as their families and never take their sacrifices for granted.
Medicare
As someone deeply committed to advocating for the most vulnerable members of our community, I will always be engaged in the crucial fight to safeguard essential programs such as Medicare and other social safety nets from potential cuts and reductions. These programs serve as a lifeline for many individuals, particularly senior citizens who rely on Medicare for vital healthcare services, including prescription medications, doctor visits, and other medical necessities. We have a moral imperative as the richest nation in the world to ensure that all those who need healthcare have access to it.
Housing
Housing is a fundamental human right that far too many people in this country are denied due to economic challenges and invidious discriminatory practices. I am committed to continue tackling the housing shortage head-on and I am dedicated to working towards solutions that will provide affordable and accessible housing options within communities. At a time when too many people are using streets and bridges as housing, we must understand that housing is a necessity, not a luxury.
